Durham Lifting welcomes Chartered Engineer Wan Djawad as Technical Director, bringing international lifting equipment experience, engineering leadership and a strong commitment to developing future technical talent.
Durham Lifting is pleased to welcome Wan Djawad CEng MIMechE to the business as Technical Director.
Wan brings more than 13 years of experience within the lifting equipment industry, with extensive involvement in the design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of lifting and material-handling systems.

Throughout his career, Wan has worked with some of the lifting industry’s best-known organisations and contributed to projects involving a wide range of lifting and material-handling equipment.
His experience covers the complete equipment lifecycle, from initial design and engineering through to fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing.
This broad technical background gives Wan a strong understanding of how lifting equipment must be designed, manufactured and verified to operate safely and reliably in demanding environments.

Wan has worked extensively with lifting and material-handling equipment used in both onshore and marine environments.
These applications can involve very different technical demands. Equipment used within factories, ports, vessels and offshore environments must be developed around the specific load, installation, operating conditions and applicable standards.
Wan’s work across Asia and Europe has also given him experience of supporting clients operating under different commercial, technical and regulatory requirements.

Chartered engineering credentials
Wan is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours from Universiti Tenaga Nasional in Malaysia and a master’s degree in Steel Construction from the University of Sheffield.
This academic foundation supports his practical experience in lifting equipment design, structural engineering and technical leadership.
Chartered Engineer with specialist mechanical and structural knowledge
Wan combines professional engineering recognition with degree-level study in mechanical engineering and postgraduate expertise in steel construction, supporting the safe design and delivery of complex lifting systems.
Chevening Scholarship and postgraduate study
Wan completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Sheffield after being awarded a prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
His studies were supported by BAE Systems and provided the opportunity to develop further expertise in steel construction and structural engineering.
The experience strengthened both his technical knowledge and his ability to work within multidisciplinary and international engineering environments.
A commitment to mentoring future engineers
Alongside his technical career, Wan has maintained a strong interest in mentoring engineering students and supporting early-career professionals.
He has founded and chaired non-profit organisations internationally and contributed to committees within the Institution of Mechanical Engineers across both Asia and Europe.
At the time of joining Durham Lifting, Wan was serving as Chair of the IMechE Teesside Young Members Panel, helping create professional development and networking opportunities for emerging engineers in the region.
